If you are living in residence, there are habits you need to develop, to avoid pest problems.  With all the students in res, and the constant back and forth to the family home, friends or relatives there are a lot of ways to get into trouble by attracting pests.

Here are a guidelines that will help you avoid problems:

  1.  Educate yourself.  Read and be able to identify about bedbugs and other pests.
  2. Ask monitors to be kept informed of the status of any pest problems on your floor and inform them of any problems you are having.
  3. Caulk cracks along the baseboards and walls.
  4. Keep your bed away from the wall.
  5. Minimize clutter and keep clothes off the floor and your bed.
  6. Don’t bring any furniture into the room without a thorough inspection.
  7. Vacuum frequently.
  8. Don’t provide any extra food or Moisture from seepage or leaks.  (This isn’t so much for bedbugs so much as for other pest such as roaches or rodents).
  9. Use a dusting of diatomaceous earth and or glue traps to complete a perimeter.
  10. Inspect periodically, checking behind stitch and outlet covers.  Consider bed post traps as a way of monitoring.
  11. Get clear plastic bags to seal your luggage.
  12. Wash and bag clothes going between residence and home .
