Skunks
Basics
The animals grow to anywhere from 50 to 80 cm in length, including tail, and weigh from around 2.7 to 4.5 kg. The striped skunk, as found in the Beeches, is black with the will-known double stripes down the back and tail.
Skunks live under porches, decks, and sheds. You can also find them in burrows and in wood piles. They are unlikely to be found in attic crawlspaces or other places that must be reached by climbing.
Diet consists of small rodents like mice, grubs, bird eggs, insects. In addition, in urban locales, skunks will eat food discarded by people and what they can find in compost piles.
Dangers
Skunk spray, released when the animal feels in danger, is powerful. It can irritate skin and even cause blindness.
